Danny Mc @dmcbillion
Hello - it's Wednesday 11/29/23 and here's a thread all about this afternoon's @CityofCleveland Board of Control meeting for @cledocumenters & @signalcleveland
#CLEdocumenters!

01:46 PM Nov 29, 2023 CST

Danny Mc @dmcbillion 2/17
The Board of Control is made up of @MayorBibb, members of his cabinet & the heads of various city departments.
The Board selects & approves vendors for city contracts.
They also approve the sale of city land
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 3/17
These meetings tend to be short - often around 15 minutes. But still lots of $$$ for City contracts gets approved by the Board of Control.
Other than some clarifying questions, there is rarely much discussion from those in the room about these contracts.

The agenda for today's meeting is available here:
there are 6 contracts to be approved or amended on today's agenda. there are no sales of landbank parcels on today's agenda.

The meeting has begun! Kicking off with the first item on the agenda - amending a contract with Case to also include CSU. This is related to trauma-informed professional development for rec center staff
It was approved unanimously
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 8/17
Next up -
contracts to purchase ~$3.5 million of wire from PEPCO
and
contract to VanCuren Services for tree trimming services for 2 years at ~$1.9 million
No discussion, approved unanimously
[I'm left to wonder why Ullman Oil is a subcontractor on the tree trimming contract]
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 9/17
next is port control-
approving a Axon Creative as a subcontractor to Downtown Cleveland Alliance for North Coast Harbor
The audio kinda went to crap at this moment so it's unclear to me what exactly Axon Creative will be getting up to
Approved!
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 10/17
next up - ~$1.1 million for improvements at North Coast Harbor
approved!
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 11/17
and finally, public safety with a contract to SAFE Boats International to buy a police boat for ~$800k
it was approved unanimously
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 12/17
the audio got a bit too fuzzy for me to hear the specifics but it sounds like there's some kind of technicality b/w Washington state law (where SAFE Boat is headquartered) and Ohio law.
No mentions of maritime law, though, that I could make out
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 13/17
But how will this boat be delivered from Bremerton, WA - on the Puget Sound - to Cleveland, Ohio?
Is it small enough to trailer down I-90?
Is it seaworthy to make the journey thru the Panama Canal? The Straits of Magellan?
The St. Lawrence or, perhaps, even the Mississippi?
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 14/17
oh and the meeting ended. There were no other items to discuss -- it was about 5 minutes long!
Danny Mc @dmcbillion 15/17
That concludes my coverage of today's Board of Control meeting. Thank you for reading along w/ me!
