Notice is hereby given that the Board of Education of The School District of Philadelphia shall hold an initial public hearing pursuant to the Charter School Law on the application for a new charter school in Philadelphia. The hearing will be held on December 20, 2023 via remote platform. The remote platform link will be posted on the Board of Education’s website at https://www.philasd.org/schoolboard/.
The hearing shall commence at 4:00 p.m. The charter applicant, identified below, will be given fifteen (15) minutes to present information about its application.
- Global Leadership Academy International Charter High School
The Board of Education will receive public comment from Philadelphia residents on the charter application on December 20th. Public comment shall start at approximately 4:30 p.m on the remote platform. To register to speak, individuals must either call the speaker registration line at 215-400-5959 or email schoolboard@philasd.org by 5:00 pm EST on December 19th. Individuals who timely register will be permitted to provide public comment on December 20th. Each individual shall have two minutes to speak.
The Board of Education also will accept written public testimony on the new charter application from Philadelphia residents through January 26, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Philadelphia Board of Education
The Board of Education is the governing body responsible for overseeing all policies and budgetary decisions of the School District of Philadelphia. Additionally, the Board of Education serves as the authorizer for all charter schools in Philadelphia. The Board is made up of nine (9) Board Members who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council. Board Members serve four-year terms that are co-terminus with the Mayor’s term.
